Which rank a League of Legends player is placed in depends on two different ranking systems. This is true for all game modes, including both ranked or normal. This is due to their MMR. If a player has a negative win rate, meaning they recently lost most of their games, the MMR system will conclude their matchmaking placement is too high for their skill level, thus lowering the rating. The opposite happens for more positive win rates and for win streaks. Streaks will make players gradually gain or lose more or less MMR, depending on the nature of the streak.
Players can place in iron, bronze, silver, gold, platinum, diamond, master, grandmaster, and challenger ranks. Ranks lower than master each have five divisions, while higher ranks are single-tier ranks reserved for only the very best players and solely depend on LP. These points are earned through wins and taken away for losses. Players need to earn LP to get an opportunity to climb a division.

Inversely, losing games and performing well below expectations deduced from your previous matches will reduce your rank.
Your personal performance will have a greater impact on the early evaluation of your skill, but will decrease in importance when compared to wins, as we hone in on your skill over time. Competitive mode also measures how decisively you win or lose. We figure, if there is a benefit to your rank that comes from playing your best for the entire match, it will incentivize you to stay in the fight and not throw games.
For those at the VALORANT rank level, winning and how decisive games are won or lost will be the only factor we measure, because at the highest levels of competitive play, we trust you and your teammates have earned your way there. Our rank and competitive matchmaking system is meant to deliver a balanced fight and keep the disruption to a minimum. Factoring in your total performance also helps us better detect smurfs, prevent rank boosting, and get to an accurate display of your skill rank much quicker.

Matchmaking is the existing automated process in League of Legends that matches a player to and against other players in games. The system estimates how good a player is based on whom the player beats and to whom the player loses. It knows pre-made teams are an advantage, so it gives pre-made teams tougher opponents than if each player had queued alone or other premades of a similar total skill level Riot Games Inc. The basic concept is that the system over time understands how strong of a player you are, and attempts to place you in games with people of the same strength.
As much as possible, the game tries to create matches that are a coin flip between players who are about the same skill. The Matchmaking System works along with a modified version of the Elo system. From there, the game is played. If a player wins, the player gain points. On the contrary, if the player loses, he loses points. If the win was “unexpected” i.
How does Ranked matchmaking work with duo queues?
Matchmaking is the process through which the system groups players into opposing teams for public games modes. Valorant continues to be impressively successful during its closed beta. But with launch looming, players are beginning to question the lack of certain features and options. While it’s not a simple answer, Felding answers simply, stating it’s because Riot wants competitive Valorant to be focused on team-play. The possibility of a pure solo matchmaking option, in Felding’s view, “can easily lead to that becoming the definitive test of someone’s skills. Rather, it wants players to be encouraged to find teammates and to have their skill in working with teams, and against teams, be matchmaking‘s priority. That doesn’t mean that Riot is refusing to acknowledge the disparity that can be created for solo queuers.
But last season, Riot tried a new experiment with Dynamic Queue, allowing players to queue up for ranked in a group of any size. Some positives were gained from it, including the new champion select that allowed for role selection, but overall community reaction forced another change.

Weighted Average is a blend of the average of all players, then skews that average to the highest-ranked player in the party. A party of similarly ranked players will have a Party Skill close to their average rating. Changes are Coming to Ranked and Matchmaking
My duo partner is mostly support. The matchmaking we see as a duo seems unusually hard. Well, solo queue games for each of us and we sit in the same room to witness this are much easier! After going solo queue, i went and quickly found my way back to Gold. So, it seems the system is doing something to make duo games extra hard. Rather than essentially being punished for the effort of trying to play together.

Lately though, I play to farm ascended shards of glory and just for the enjoyment. So now I don’t mind queuing with my friends in Ranked when they want to do some PvP, even if they have a much lower rating. However, I guess I’m a bit mixed up on how the mm handles placing us as a duo team. I assumed that if I am Gold 3 and my partner is Bronze 3, it would treat us bot as Gold 3 and match us accordingly. Now for me this is actually helpful, since my rating could plummet, and then I’ll have easy matches when I play solo again and get easy pips.
For players that still care about rating though, this seems like it would be really discouraging for people that want to play with their friends if their ratings aren’t similar. So does anyone know how the mm matches duo queues and why the system is like this? Also, is there a decent reason for the system being like this or is there a better way?
